The objective of the geotechnical studies is to know the formation of the ground and its geomechanical characteristics, which support the verifications of safety and stability of the ground during the excavation for foundations, construction and subsequent exploitation of the work; For this, different types of drilling equipment are used.
The surveys include mining, hydrogeological, tunneling and geotechnical investigations themselves. These boreholes can reach great depths, especially in mining and search for water.
In civil works, the perforation of the ground is used, being able to reach depths (but less than in mining and water extraction) to inject suitable grout, for driving piles or micropiles and for the installation of anchors.
